Week 43: Luke 1-11

October 29, 2009 · 1 Comment

Mia:  Luke has a lot of the same stories as Matthew and Mark.  Parables and stuff.  But I like Luke, the way it is written like for a person, from a person.  It is written by Luke and for Theophilus.  I like it written that way best.

Ian:

An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.  Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.  Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all—he is the greatest.”  Luke 9:46-48.

Colorado Springs Trip

October 7, 2009 · 3 Comments

I just got back from Compassion’s National Advocates Conference with Mindy, Emmeline, and over 400 others and I can’t say enough about how rich this experience was. God met us. We were among heroes. Relationships with friends deepened and new friendships flourished. All of you make us laugh and are safe enough to cry with. Thank you for adding to our life. The Father is especially fond of you.

About half of our staff are located at Compassion’s Global Ministry Center in Colorado Springs.  The other half work all over the U.S.  And they look good…

Retreat Redux

July 3, 2009 · 3 Comments

Related to last weekend, here are some of the folks that make up the leadership team of Compassion’s Child Advocate Network in the Nortwest region.  I’m humbled and privileged to serve with them.  And they’re a laugh.

Sheri, our Alaska Area Coodinator, was able to get to Portland a little early and had dinner with the the collection.  We’re big fans.

Sheri said something that made me realize that when it’s nice in Portland, it’s really nice.  She was commenting on the great weather and how beautiful it was here and I responded, “Too bad it’s not like this all the time.”  She returned, “I think you’re just saying that.”

Ssssshhh…

NOOMA

April 8, 2009 · 3 Comments

Heard of NOOMA videos? They are a series of short films hosted by Rob Bell that explore our world from the perspective of Jesus. The latest NOOMA video, Corner, was released this month! Even more exciting, people from Compassion International underwrote the video, and one of our very own Compassion-assisted children is featured at the end. Visit the site and view the video today.  (For Internet Explorer users: this Nooma video can be viewed only with IE7 and above.)

Global Food Crisis Day

March 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Last week, I posted this and this and I’m happy to share the results!

Compassion’s financial goal was to raise $1 million for the Global Food Crisis.  Well, over 27,000 donors gave more than $3.1 million!  What’s more, over 2,000 children were sponsored.

Looks like God isn’t participating in the recession, either.

Aidan (7) just wrote his first letter to the child he’s sponsoring. This Ethiopian boy shares the exact same birthday as him. Maybe they’ll meet each other someday.
