Week 34: Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes

Mia:  I really liked the book of Ruth.  I’d read it before, but I didn’t remember there were two girls that went with Naomi, but one turned back, and Ruth stayed.  That showed Ruth’s faith even more, and it surprised me.

Ian:  If Proverbs was written at the end of a life lived much without God, I think it would sound a lot like Ecclesiastes.  And if Ecclesiastes was writen at the end of a life full of God, it would probably sound a lot like Proverbs.

Also, this stretch of Old Testament books have been more interesting as I’ve worked through them in the order of the Jewish Bible–Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth.  Lots of wisdom and women.

Ian:  (Looks at Joshua.)

Ian:  Joshua.  When I’m looking at you like this, that means I’m watching.

Big Brother

Even when Joshua (3) was younger, we knew that he’d make a great big brother.

Emmeline was crying in her downstairs bassinet so Mindy went down to check on her.  She found Joshua gingerly exiting the room.  Tip-toeing, he, about his still crying baby sister, articulately whispers…

Shoe-Speak, 2

Instead of “somebody,” Joshua (3) says “summybody.”  

Joshua (yelling from the bathroom):  I NEED SUMMYBODY WIPE MY BOTTOM!!!

Week 33: Job 21-42

Mia:  After I read Job 42:12-17 and finished the book of Job, I just said to myself:  He passed the test and now he’s richer than before!

Ian:  If Proverbs inspires me to be a man of understanding, Job reminds me that even a man of understanding has his limits or, at least, can have bad timing.  (Especially Job 34.)
