If I may be so presumptuous, five of my planets have lined up this weekend.
I’m hosting sixteen Compassion peeps from twelve states at Multnomah Bible College here in Portland where we’re learning how to Coach. Oh. And they get to meet my family today. Good times sitting in a place of the past (Memorial Dorm lounge) with folks so present (Compassion International Child Advocates). What’s more, Multnomah peeps, I write this from my a room in Memorial Dorm.
And there’s still nothing quite taking a stroll on this campus on a nice evening or reading your Bible on the lawn on a beautiful morning.

Eight-years-old today!
We celebrated by having a party back on June 19th…
…and then with a trip to Oddwater on June 24th. Then we had some cake with Ian’s Compassion peeps today. Fun times!
We’re closer to the Savior by seeing his work in you and through you, Aidan. Happy birthday, A-Boy!

Our friend did the ads for Oregon Coast Aquarium’s exhibit, Oddwater. If you’re in Portland, it’s likely that you’ve seen these creative and colorful ads. And these ads? They worked. At least on Aidan (8 in two days). He longed to see this exhibit and, two days ago, Aidan’s dream was fullfilled.
If you can get to Newport, Oregon before the end of the year, the collection thinks you ought to treat yourself to this exhibit.

Week 25: Amos-Haggai

Mia: In Jonah chapter 3, Ninevah repents and is spared. In the next chapter, the king of Ninevah declares that every man and beast shall wear a sackloth and not eat a thing so that God might show mercy on the city. They really took Jonah’s prophecy seriously. It’s almost like they completely new that they were doing evil and wrong all along. Maybe they were just waiting for someone else to care, ’cause no one corrected them.
Ian: A wise man taught me once to pay special attention to the text when it breaks from the pattern that you’ve come to expect. Jonah, in the midst of the “Book of the Twelve,” ran away when the word of the Lord came to him–a different reaction when compare to the preceding Hosea, Joel, Amos, and Obadiah. After reading about what God communicated through those guys, I find myself a little more sympathetic to Jonah. I’d even say that I see myself in Jonah more than the rest of the Twelve. Maybe we all do. So maybe that’s why this book is highlighted the way it is.
