Birthday Recap

The party was hangin’ out…

…watching Chrissa Stands Strong, eating pizza and root beer floats.
Instead of presents this year, Makaena ask people to donate funds toward her Compassion International child sponsorship. Many thanks to friends and family!

Oh. And the birthday girl’s present for mom? She knitted her a washcloth!

Makaena (10): If that warning’s so important, why don’t they give you enough time to read it?

Week 12: Judges 3-21

Mia: The LORD really tries to show himself to the Israelites because he saved them from the Midianites with three hundred men. But after all the victory, the Israelites turn away from the LORD!
Ian: (I’m glad to be done with this book.) Related to Samson and Delilah…
With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was tired to death. Judges 16:16.
The ESV describes Samson’s soul as “vexed to death.” But I don’t blame Delilah (that much). Samson put himself in that position.
Do you think this would have happened to him if he wasn’t known to be such a brawler? I mean, who could dare tell him the truth? (Did you see last week’s 30 Rock episode about “the bubble?” It’s like that.) Let’s just say that I’ve officially appropriated Red Forman’s favorite pronoun to Samson.
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit. Judges 21:25.
When king-less, people do as they see fit. And it’s not pretty.

Global Food Crisis Day
March 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Last week, I posted this and this and I’m happy to share the results!
Compassion’s financial goal was to raise $1 million for the Global Food Crisis. Well, over 27,000 donors gave more than $3.1 million! What’s more, over 2,000 children were sponsored.
Looks like God isn’t participating in the recession, either.

Week 11: Joshua 5-Judges 2

Mia: The Israelites are being so unfaithful to God! But God is still faithful to them. God could simply wipe them off the face of the earth, but he doesn’t. It did say God handed them over to their enemies, but then he brought up a judge to save them! But once the judge is dead, they are unfaithful again. Horrible.
Ian: If there’s one thing that I’m inspired to do based on my recent reading, it’s this: Remember.
Also, when I think of parenting, I often do not think of it beyond just Mindy and me. I’m reminded that “it takes the whole village to raise a child.”
After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Judges 2:10.
This verse comes from one of the saddest chapters I’ve read all year.
