the Daily Durias

Decade

May 2, 2008 · 28 Comments

On this day ten years ago Mindy and I were married. We’re celebrating by remembering God’s faithfulness to us over these years–even when we were faithless–and showing him our gratitude.

We started this conversation yesterday after a nap (the kids are gone) and it continued through dinner last night and now today. We thumbed through a bunch of candids taken at our wedding and the Lord’s faithfulness resounded even more as we saw pictures of friends who are still friends today. You still walk with Jesus. And you’ve broadened our reality of friendship. We’re deeply grateful.

A while back I started “prequel-ing” the (original) Daily Durias. I took some time to blog about things as if weblogs were conventional in, say 1998.  Enjoy!

Congratulations! You two are a model of faith and consistency for us all. Not to mention that you also LOOK like models. You have both meant so much to me and Cheryl as a couple these past few years and of course to me since, well…. forever?

I’m looking forward to the next 10 kids, er.. years!

    Love you two,

    BJ and Cheryl

It is a pleasure to celebrate ten years of good and sometimes tougher times with you. Your sense of humor and love for each other and your family always trumps the bad things. One thing is for sure. You have four of the most individually different and beautiful children imagineable. Thank you for letting us be doting and loving grandparents.

    Hey guys,
Congratulations on the 10 years. Ian, I love seeing the retro pictures of you with long hair. Do you remember who I thought you were when I saw you for the first time? Here’s a hint, you were on stage at Central Bible for chapel, leading worship, and I was stunned… I’ll wait for your reply.
I miss you guys lots. I remember serving you and Makaela at Spag. Lemons, Lemons, Lemons.
God bless you and keep you this next 10 years!
    Jason, for the Doughty Clan

Ten years goes fast, doesn’t it? From our ‘Tower Power’ days celebrating your engagement and wedding to who you are today…it is so amazing to see God’s faithfulness in your lives and in your children.

I pray that the next ten would be even more amazing as you continue together to see God take the dreams He put in your hearts and bring them to your hands. I pray that you would know more and more the depths of His nearness and love, for both yourselves and your beautiful children.

    Lots of love!

10 years of marriage does not happen without the Lord’s grace and mercy being poured out on two people OR without having a strong community of brothers and sisters cheering you on.

Thank you Father for keeping us under your protective wing and lifting us up again and again.

Thank you friends and family for standing with us, praying for us, and unknowingly exhorting us to remain faithful through living lives of faith yourselves.

    Bless you all!

Congratulations! The first ten are tough ones to make it through. Especially if you are raising kids. God is good and faithful, like you said. We will celebrate 12 this coming August. It is so amazing at how the time flies and the things you get to experience in life with the Lord. Keep up the love and God will continue to bless you.

    Congrats, you two.

Happy anniversary! We’ll celebrate 13 years in July…isn’t it awesome how, when we’re walking with the Lord, He helps our love for our spouse grow deeper with each passing year? He is so good! And God has blessed you with a beautiful family!

Dear, in the order that we met, BJ, Jodi, Uncle Noel & Auntie Alma, Carl, Sarah, Kirsti, Sally, Carmen, Rachel, Geary & Jeana, Jason, Bob & Bobbie, Jen, Sheena, Elizabeth, Nick & Sarah, Robert, Dave, and Doug,

    Many thanks for the well-wishes!

I’m floored by your encouraging words.

And I’m all smiles about the fact that these encouraging words came from friends spanning beyond these last ten years. Elementary school (BJ & Jodi, second and third grade, respectively) to my current job at Compassion (Doug, who I actually haven’t even met in person yet)! Thanks for sharing and making this celebration that much more memorable.

    You are appreciated.

    i

P.S. Jason? Did you think I was, like, Richie Valens or something? =) And we TOTALLY remember the lemons!

    Hi ‘Yan and Mindy,
In our opinion we are the most previleged people witnessing
God’s workmanship in you lives . We are one of those who are sitting in the front seat of this theater! We see God’s hands and both of your response to Him. Let’s go even further knowing what he has done and what He will be do again. Congratulations !

Ten years? Am I really that old? WOW! Well, one day you’re wondering what the Asian man from the deli across the way just yelled at you after making his deposit and the next you’re wondering what your 4 year old just yelled at you after running out of the bathroom! Craziness and laughter!
I know that you are not my children, but I can’t help but think of the verse that says I have NO GREATER JOY than to see my children walking in the Truth… I can’t help but think that the labor there is in seeing your kids grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and the fulfillment there is in living a life bathed in His grace is what has made these ten years so memorable, profitable and learn-filled (yes, I did just make up that word!) It has been a delight to share these 10 years and I thank my God upon every remembrance of you that I am able to share in the blessing of your friendship! Your lives are a treasure and a joy to every person you come in contact with! The Lord bless you and keep you! I love you guys!

Thanks so much, Rachel! It’s so encouraging to know we’re on this journey together. It can be insane sometimes but at least we’re not going crazy alone.

    Or are we?

    I am your children.

    His love endures forever.
