He’s okay but, last Saturday, Aidan (almost 7) took a pretty mean spill off of a fence that he’s climbed hundreds of times. After a visit with a neighbor/nurse and a jaunt to urgent care to see if he needed stitches, we patched him up with just two butterfly bandages. Toward the end of this ordeal, and for no reason apparent to Mindy or me, he was really excited.
It turned out that he was very happy about having a scar above his left eye.

Try a slice of Turtle Cake at Cafe Latté. They serve many different kinds of food at this “gourmet cafeteria” but I just had dessert. Poor me.

Week 1: The Poverty Of The Heart
Week 2: God Is Not Silent
Week 3: Understanding Poverty
Week 4: Prayer
Week 5: Be The Change
The homestretch! It’s perfect timing because it’s likely that I’ll have the opportunity to connect with Amber Van Schooneveld in person this week. She opens week five with this:
“The journey of serving those in need is, in essence, the journey of following Christ. And God has created each person uniquely for the journey, giving each one spiritual gifts, skills, and passions with which to serve him, to be the change we want to see in the world. This week we’ll explore our individual gifts and be reminded that it is God’s grace that sustains us along the way.”

We’ve just received the results of Makaena’s California Achievement Test. Our little 3rd grader scored in the 97th percentile nationally and her reading comprehension is equivalent to that of a senior in high school. A graduating senior. Really. I have proof.
God amazes us. We’re celebrating tonight. Kudos to this fantastic teacher/student combo!

If we were reality television shows…
Joshua » Survivor » Tough and charming bordering on manipulative.
Paige » So You Think You Can Dance » She’s very limber.
Aidan » Iron Chef » He loves to cook and hates to lose.
Mia » American Idol » Singing, singing, singing.
Mindy » Supernanny » Enough said.
Ian » The Amazing Race » Because he’s Filipino. (Oh. Waitaminute. “Race” here doesn’t refer to one’s ethnicity?)
What show would you be?

Our introduction to week four of Hope Lives: A Journey Of Restoration:
“Prayer is the weapon God has given us for the journey of loving and serving those in need. This week of prayer and journaling will help us explore the power of prayer in a world in need of restoration and help us make prayer a part of daily life.” –Amber Van Schooneveld.

We’ve been tossing around a ball that’s just a little softer than a regular baseball. Apparently, Mia, Aidan, and I were making it look easy. Paige (5) put on her glove, I underhanded her the ball, and hit her in the face.
Paige (5, weeeeeping): I thought the ball was gonna go in my glove but it went in my nose.
